Saints of Denial. 'short'

His fingers sprang over the strings, his mind caught in a rhythm which held his breath within its cage. The bass, the drums, the microphone. He was sure it was that, and not the man glistening beneath the hot stage lights singing those inspirational lyrics. He felt the wave of movement and voices as the microphone screamed out to the people. I will be there, for your last word, I’ll write it down for them to hear! Not something he’d written. He would have worded it much differently. Across the crowd, he saw his name jumping out at him from dimly lit cardboard signs.

Blood Blossom Ch51I woke back up, probably less than half an hour later but my head hurt like the dickens. My hand went to my temple, crusted blood flaking off. I cursed. “Here he is, Boss.” I guessed we’d just arrived. My heart was already pounding as I refused to look up at the owner of the boots, which still had my blood on the stitching.
